In order to identify the students who will flourish and succeed in our unique school environment, the TGS admissions process is highly selective. Our goal is to build a diverse and cohesive group of outstanding young people who are ready to begin an incredible journey of intellectual and personal development together. Our student body is limited to approximately 45 students, which provides an intimate classroom setting combined with unique place-based learning experiences through travel.
The TGS school year begins in September and ends in June each year. Applications for the 2015-2016 school year are due soon. Applicants for 2016 and beyond can submit an inquiry for a future application through the “Begin Your Inquiry” button.
The steps in the TGS admissions process are:
Submit an Inquiry
Prospective candidates should submit an initial admissions inquiry via our online form. The Admissions Office will respond to all inquiries within one week.
Complete the Online Application
Once your inquiry is reviewed and approved, we will send you a personal login and password to access our online application system. All application components are submitted electronically, and you will be able to save your responses and continue working on your application until you are ready to submit it. You will be asked to provide:
- Responses to the student questionnaire
- Transcripts or report cards from the last two school years
- A creative media project of your choice
- Three recommendation forms:
- Math Teacher Recommendation Form
- English Teacher Recommendation Form
- Counselor Recommendation Form
- Responses to the parent questionnaire (to be completed by parents)
- Scholarship Application Form, if applicable (to be completed by parents)
When you complete and submit the online application, and all supplementary forms are received, the Admissions Committee will review your application. We carefully review each application to assess if you are right for TGS—and if TGS is right for you. Selected candidates will be invited for an initial interview.
The Admissions Office will schedule a Skype interview with you and your parents to discuss your educational goals in depth and address your family’s questions.
After the initial interview, selected candidates will be asked to complete three diagnostic assessments: an emotional quotient inventory, a cognitive abilities test, and an English writing test. All tests are administered online via an individual account provided by TGS.
Finalist candidates will be invited to interview with various members of the TGS Admissions Committee via Skype, including: two TGS teachers, the Residential Life Director, and a current TGS student. Candidates will be notified of final decisions after the Admissions Committee meets for a final time.
