Boston

2012-2013 Term 2

Always the center of the American revolution, Boston has been a magnet for refugees and rebels, activists and industrialists, philosophers and physicists. It’s no accident that both of the 2012 U.S. presidential candidates went to university here. Small in size but big in swagger, the city winds around the Charles River, and around a phenomenal diversity of neighborhoods that flaunt its immigrant heritage.

Our students will need a wide variety of clothing during their stay, as Boston’s seasons are as diverse as its inhabitants. Winds that whip off the river in the winter quickly give way to an amiable spring, all the more perfect for a weXplore excursion to Freedom Trail, or the excitement that comes from cheering at a Red Sox game.

Facts about Boston

  • One of the oldest cities in the United States
  • Boston built the first U.S subway in 1897
  • Nicknamed "Beantown" after Boston Baked Beans
  • The Ted Williams Tunnel is the deepest tunnel in the United States
  • Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon run
