Looking at China through the eyes of Ai Weiwei

The following reflection by Mattie Boyce is part of a series of blog posts written by THINK Global School faculty members to showcase their thoughts and experiences from a recent weXplore trip to Washington D.C. To view the entire conversation, visit us on Spot.

“The tragic reality of today is reflected in the true plight of our spiritual existence: we are spineless and cannot stand straight.” -Ai Weiwei

FOR THOSE OF YOU who are not familiar with Ai Weiwei, he is a Chinese artist and activist who defected to the US after being jailed in 2011 for expressing his views and perceptions of life in China through his art.

Use your ideas and thoughts to interpret what this art is trying to say. This is what I did when I visited the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. with THINK Global School last week. I was greatly impressed with his work, and I am sure you will be as well.

Math is everywhere! Math is art and art is math!
