1. Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and what were you doing before arriving at THINK Global School?

I grew up in Pennsylvania, but I feel most at home in Colorado. I earned my BS in Math Education from Pennsylvania State University and my M.Ed. in Adventure Education from Plymouth State. I have spent most of my professional career teaching secondary math courses and incorporating outdoor adventure into the curriculum. I have also worked as a wilderness therapy field guide and a team-building facilitator.

2. Describe your teaching style or philosophy. Do you have any unique teaching methods you use to keep students engaged?

My goal as an educator is to facilitate learning opportunities that encourage students to ask questions, persevere along the path of curiosity, and make meaningful connections. I find out what creates a spark inside each student – and fuel that.

3. Which of our core values do you feel you most embody, and why?

I embody the core value of Meraki. I feel energized and driven when I channel my creative energy and passion into my work. I believe what I’m doing is less important than how I’m doing it. As long as I’m showing up with love, I’m on the right track.

4. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I can’t wait to visit the village of El Chorro in Spain. I’m drawn to the canyon views from the Caminito del Rey, and the Bobastro ruins. I will spend my time rock climbing, hiking, and cliff jumping.

5. What is your favorite book, and why?

Finite and Infinite Games: A Vision of Life as Play and Possibility, by James P. Carse. This book has shifted my perspective of life, reminding me to dissolve my assumptions of the serious nature of life and, instead, see the world as a series of games that we choose to play.
