After graduating from uni, I spent a year and a half as a busker (guitar/voice with occasional violin), performing on streets worldwide as my sole source of income. This time confirmed for me a few things – the power of art as a language and my determination to become a teacher (since age five). I then taught in Chicago for a year, Thailand for two years, and Taiwan for two years before returning to teach at my alma mater in Gainesville, FL.
Designing curriculum, conversations with students, and field experiences.
Removal of opaque admission processes.
求知慾. My travel, drawing, music, and teaching are driven by curiosity and feed into a constant challenging of assumptions – both mine and those of people around me.
In 2010, during my busking trip around the world, I found myself in Wrocław, Poland. I decided to busk on the “lover’s bridge” Tumski Most. Not long after I began, however, a large skinhead stole money from my case, antagonized me, and then threatened violence. Just as he was approaching to hit me, however, a young man on a bicycle came and stopped between us. He calmed the aggressor long enough to lead me to the safer part of town (for foreigners), then bid me farewell.
