A week in the life of Think Global School students

In Monday’s science class, we had a guest speaker Malin Ah-King, from the Center for Gender Research at Uppsala University. She talked about gender differences in animal species. Later that day, we gave our Global Studies presentations in class. We each compared the Vikings with one other group, like the Mongols, the Aztecs or the Greeks.

Later that day, we also had Mandarin class. We got to use our iPads to practice writing characters.

On Tuesday, we had an amazing talk by Tobias Rawet, a WWII holocaust survivor who told the story of his life during the war and what things they had to overcome to survive. He told us, “To hate is very destructive. We have to distinguish between ‘hatred’ and ‘not like’.” When asked by Alice what one message he would send out to the whole world if he could, he said his message would be:

Take care of each other.

Wednesday was Health and Wellness class. We learned about calories and nutrition, and our assignment for the week was to team up with someone else in the class and choose a menu for an upcoming meal. We had to choose what to eat and decide what groceries and supplies we would need to make it. After the Health and Wellness class, we went to swimming and then had our fencing class.

On Thursday, Brad decided to cancel classes for the day and instead have quiet study time at home. Some of us were coming down with colds and the flu, and it made sense to stay in for the day and rest up. We had study hall during the day to catch up on homework.

On Friday, we went back to classes and finished out the week.

Over the weekend, we had time to sleep in but also had time to work on homework. On Saturday we could invite a friend to come with us to see the new Harry Potter movie and have pizza for dinner. The rest of the weekend was relaxing.
