All students who attend THINK Global School have the option of self-preparing and taking Advanced Placement exams. Students who elect to take the exams have the opportunity to do so during the month of May each school year.
To determine if the Advanced Placement exams are necessary for their plans post-graduation, each enrolled student sits down with their advisor and counselor to determine a personalized plan. If a student would like to sit one or multiple AP exams, assistance is available in developing a self-study program through their advisor and counselor.
The Capstone Project is a multi-term individual project on the topic of your choice that culminates in a presentation to the THINK Global School community before graduation. Capstone Projects may take the form of studying a global issue and designing a product or program to help address it, conducting a scientific study and presenting your findings, creating a documentary film, or other creative ways to demonstrate mastery of a subject.
As you make your way through the curriculum, you’ll create multiple forms of academic output such as research papers, multimedia presentations, films, works of art, and creative writing. These projects go into your academic portfolio, a digital collection that showcases your progress for evaluation and assessment. As you near matriculation, you’ll edit your academic portfolio to show a body of your most substantial work to universities and colleges.
Your preparation for the next steps beyond high school begin the moment you arrive. A college and career counselor will support you throughout your time at TGS, and he or she will help you find and narrow down post-secondary options that fit your academic goals, learning style and personality profile. Your education at THINK Global School includes regular, one-on-one sessions with your counselor designed to give you all the tools necessary to navigate the global university admissions process and make a successful transition to the school that is the best fit for you. Our counselor works with each student at every step of the way, helping students realize and achieve their post-THINK Global School goals. This includes assistance with preparation and registration for college entrance assessments such as the US admissions tests, SAT, ACT, and AP exams.
A year-by-year guide to our approach to university counseling:
In Year 1 you’ll work with your dedicated school counselor to identify your interests, values, strengths, personality traits, and learning styles. You’ll start to take an in-depth look at the THINK Global School Curriculum and determine how you’ll balance project-based learning modules with student-designed projects to meet graduation requirements. At the same time, you’ll begin contributing to your digital academic portfolio, which will showcase the outcomes of your projects and later serve as a helpful university application tool.
During your second year, your counselor will guide you in exploring post-secondary options and career paths that align with your goals. Together, you’ll brainstorm potential majors and careers, research schools in depth, and learn about application requirements, financial considerations, and platforms like the Common Application and UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). You’ll also narrow down your list of preferred programs, complete your essays, and refine your academic portfolio to highlight your strongest work. Throughout the process, your counselor will provide support and advice on applications, entrance exams, and interviews.
