1) Hi Nada, can you tell us what you've been up to since graduating from THINK Global School in 2022? Since graduating in 2022, I've been pursuing a passion I found while at TGS, sustainability, and I am currently majoring in engineering in renewable energy systems at Al Akhawayn University, in Ifrane, Morocco. But there is way more than that! I've had a chance also to explore the world of...
Read MoreSharing and reflecting on our cultural and creative experiences is a core part of the TGS experience, and like all pursuits, this is something that typically gets better with practice. To facilitate their reflections, all students at THINK Global School are enrolled in NewMedia Lab beginning in grade 9. Beyond simply teaching our students how to visually and sonically reflect, NewMedia Lab provides a forum for them to process their learning and living environment, and output it as they see fit.
One student who has excelled at expressing herself through digital mediums is 11th (soon to be 12th) grader Liisa T. Like many of our students, Liisa is active on Flickr, constantly updating her feed with photos from her travels and increasingly impressive newMedia Lab assignments. Beginning with our term in the United States, Liisa also began recording a video “love letter” to her current host country at the end of each term. Her newest video, 日本 / JAPAN, presents a happy scene; smiles are common throughout, and the relaxing background track is frequently punctuated with laughter. 日本 / JAPAN also does an excellent job of showing scenes from day-to-day life in Japan, both as experienced by our students and the residents of Hiroshima. Japan, perhaps more than anywhere else, bestows its visitors with simple curiosity after curiosity. It’s a country where even toilets require a certain degree of contemplation. Everything seems foreign, but nothing seems out of place.
So here’s to Japan, as seen through the lens of Liisa:
