In the face of violence and extremism, education is the beacon of hope. Investing in the education of students from conflict-affected areas honors their resilience and provides them with the tools they need to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their communities.
–Joann McPike, Founder of THINK Global School
At TGS, we aim to raise $100,000 each year to fund a full scholarship for one student from a conflict-affected region, covering the cost of their life-changing education at THINK Global School. By contributing, you’re not just providing financial aid—you’re helping a student escape violence in their home country and receive a transformative international education. This education will take them across different countries, open their eyes to new possibilities, and ultimately empower them to make a meaningful impact in their home community, continuing the cycle of change and hope.
In 2011, Jawed left Afghanistan and joined THINK Global School as a tenth-grader on a full scholarship. At TGS, he found his place within our community and became a committed member of the Global Citizens Initiative. Observant and respectful, he devoured books at a pace so fast we could barely keep up with his demand for more.
With his perseverance and the support of a second scholarship, Jawed went on to study Foreign Service and International Political Economy at Georgetown University. After graduating, he secured a position at the International Monetary Fund. His life, while filled with achievements, was also marked by great challenges.
In 2021, during the Taliban takeover, Jawed had only days to evacuate his entire family from Afghanistan. Through his position at the IMF and his remarkable determination, Jawed helped his parents start a new life as asylees in Germany, while funding his siblings’ education.
Jawed’s life was tragically cut short on May 4, 2024. In our TGS community, we lost not only a brilliant alum but a deeply caring friend. To honor Jawed’s extraordinary legacy, we are establishing the Jawed Sakhi Legacy Scholarship. This fund will offer a student from a conflict-affected region the same transformative chance Jawed received, covering tuition, travel, and essential support.
By contributing to this fund, you will carry forward Jawed’s generous spirit and resilience, opening doors for students whose lives can be transformed, just as his was. Jawed touched everyone he met with his ability to listen attentively and make people feel truly valued. His legacy of kindness and impact will live on through this scholarship, continuing to change lives for years to come.
