1) Hi Nada, can you tell us what you've been up to since graduating from THINK Global School in 2022? Since graduating in 2022, I've been pursuing a passion I found while at TGS, sustainability, and I am currently majoring in engineering in renewable energy systems at Al Akhawayn University, in Ifrane, Morocco. But there is way more than that! I've had a chance also to explore the world of...
Read MoreAt TGS we think that hands-on, experiential learning is the most effective way to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystems and biology of our world. What better way to learn about the diversity of marine life than to literally be immersed in it?
Science Class in the Great Barrier Reef
To that end, TGS students are training to obtain SCUBA certification in order to dive the Great Barrier Reef. Training has been challenging, but rewarding. Teacher Marta Guevara said, “I think what I loved the most about diving together is to learn right next to my students, and to have them be better at it than me!” Intern Nangsal Lama noted, “SCUBA diving [is] tiring but a great learning experience!”
When they arrive at the Reef, TGS students will be guided by an expert diver and marine biologist for a hands-on, real world experience in one of the most beautiful, biologically diverse spots on Earth. The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest reef system, and is a World Heritage Site. The Reef is home to a diverse array of sea life, including many vulnerable or endangered species. Students will observe these animals close up and in person, exploring their habitat and studying their biological characteristics. They will also study the environment of the Reef itself in order to gain an understanding of the impacts on climate change on coral biology and ecology.
