1) Hi Nada, can you tell us what you've been up to since graduating from THINK Global School in 2022? Since graduating in 2022, I've been pursuing a passion I found while at TGS, sustainability, and I am currently majoring in engineering in renewable energy systems at Al Akhawayn University, in Ifrane, Morocco. But there is way more than that! I've had a chance also to explore the world of...
Read MoreHi Methini, can you tell us more about yourself?
My name is Methini G. I was born and raised in a small town called Thanjavur, located in South India. In my society, people expect a girl my age to finish school and college in her nearby village, get married, give birth, and serve her family. It is not the expectation to go beyond that in life. I have always wanted to achieve great things, and I love taking risks.
One of my dreams is to inspire others, especially girls in my community, to never care about being judged and be sure that the undefined limitations shouldn’t stop you from following your dreams.
I also have an unyielding passion for filmmaking, food, friends, and family. When I am feeling stressed, I start dancing. That is my kind of therapy.
What have been the highlights of your TGS experience, both academically and non-academically?
During our 2021 term in Botswana, we stayed in the Kalahari Desert for our Rite of Passage. We buried potatoes at the side of our campfire and used hot coals to bake them while making our shelter. We also learned survival skills, went on a 5 AM safari searching for the big 5s, and had no access to the internet.
I want to mention that staying away from technology made me embrace myself and everything around me. I love listening to others’ life stories and learning from them. We got a chance to interact with our guides and learn from their life experiences. This experience will always be my favorite.
Do you have a favorite teacher-led module or personal project that you’ve worked on?
In Term 2 last year, we had a teacher-led module called “The State of the World.” In this module, we examined the significant challenges faced by Generation Z. It helped me improve my media literacy and critical thinking skills, allowed me to engage in multiple student-led discussions, and helped me gain a collective global perspective on different issues.
What has been your favorite travel experience so far?
I went on a trip to Lonavala, India, which changed my perspective about life. I saw different sides of the world in one trip. Swimming under the bright blue sky, games in the dark green forest, and sleeping under the twinkling stars, this was indeed a dream come true until I reached my final day.
My friends and I did not want to leave Lonavala, but we knew it was time to take these memories back home and cherish them. After packing our bags, we were set to go. I saw people on the roads selling balloons, and these sellers were kids of my age and below. A girl about 13 years old walked towards me and asked if I wanted to buy a balloon from her. I couldn’t stop myself from helping, so my friends and I bought all the balloons from her. That evening, I could only think about how a small road divides the slums and skyscrapers. The poor and the rich. This travel experience opened my eyes to many different perspectives on life.
Is there a place you would like to visit, either with TGS or on your own?
Going for a long bike riding road trip to Manali is on my bucket list. I’ve already learned to ride a motorbike. In India, girls aren’t allowed to travel alone or go for long rides, which is the only barrier; otherwise, I am ready for it.
