TGS has two Interns or "Residential Dons" who will travel along with TGS students and faculty during the school year. But you may be wondering: what do TGS Interns do exactly? Both of our interns bring unique cultural and international perspectives to the TGS community. In short, an Intern is part residential adviser, part peer mentor, part counselor, part activity coordinator, and part “whatever may come up on a given...

Speaking with Steve Hargadon on Eluminate had that familiar quality of camaraderie that one typically experiences while sitting with a friend, talking over a strong cup of coffee, deeply engaged in a dynamic conversation. Instead, I was sitting in my own living room, in Montreal while Aron was in Beijing and hearing all the computer clicking sounds of participants exchanging ideas, emails, questions made it interactive and very 21st century....

Sandhamn Journey Photos and Text by Rachel Miletti Just to introduce myself, my name is Rachel Miletti, and I am here in Stockholm with my mother, who is developing the curriculum for Think Global School. Besides the fact that I wish I were two years younger so I could attend a school like THINK Global, I am really impressed with the way students are going to learn. I am reminded...

Australia.  For anyone who has not been there, the name may bring up images which have mostly been imbedded into our conscience by the media.  A giant island in the middle of the ocean, pretty much on the other side of the world from us, where things are upside down and backwards from our perspective, where their summers happen during our winters, and vice versa.  Where we've heard their drains...

Yep - checking in again from 12,000 metres above, well, where am I at the moment...above the North Pole, I believe. I just woke up from the most peaceful nap and while this may not be earth-shaking news to our blog readership, it was by far the best sleep I've had in the past month. When I woke up I was flooded with memories of this trip. As Johnny Cash...

Just as the bridges of Stockholm link together the people of its 14 islands, so does technology represent the thread that connects all of us on this planet. When I was in high school, I hardly knew how to send an email and the only room in the school that had computers was the computer lab - a stuffy, dusty room in the basement filled with humming machines that were...

I heard some expatriate kids the other day say that they should "bounce."  I mention that I wasn't on US or Canadian soil as I'm not sure that "bounce" is a perfectly current term, though it very well may be.  I don't seem to bounce terribly high or long in the world of contemporary teenage slang, refusing to lose the thread of the right term long past its expiry date....

For years I believed that we were all united by commonalities. That the fact the we all endeavoured to eat three times a day and have certain nice things and basic necessities were uniting factors (and that, as a consequence, we could latch on to these things and be brought together). But I soon realized that what drew me to people as I have traveled the world over the years...

When you’re involved in a new venture of any kind, one of the most important elements of your work is to “spread the word”. Those of us closely involved in transforming THINK Global School from the vision of its founder, Joann McPike, to a fully-realized school have, therefore, been very diligent in sharing information about TGS in a variety of ways: website; meetings with educational, technological, and service organizations; newspaper...

One of the great points of intersection between education and entrepreneurship is that you sometimes don't know that you're looking for something until it's staring at you in the face.  The really elusive solution may have been elusive because it didn't dawn on us to focus our view close up. We at THINK Global School were invited last week to take part in the @elemenous Future of Education Global Awareness Panel....

Term One is officially in the books! Our CM1 community was based in Sabah, Malaysia's capital city of Kota Kinabalu, which serves as a gateway to the island's many natural splendors. Beaches, reefs, mountains, and rainforests became a classroom for students as they became familiar with the beliefs, practices, and traditions shaping modern Sabah. Students attended hands-on sessions during the term with four prevalent ethnicities: Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Indigenous....

Sabah is playing the role of a “classroom” for 34 international students as they spend two months learning about the State’s diversity and acquiring fresh experiences that they may incorporate into their lives back home. The students, aged between 15 and 17, are from the New York-based Think Global School – the world’s first traveling high school. They live and study in a different country every semester, engaging in place-based and project-based learning pertinent to the nations they visit.

Hi Amethyst, tell us a bit about yourself.  I am a passionate educator with three years of experience, and I’ve just finished my first year with TGS. I specialize in the humanities, particularly history and writing. Before joining TGS, I completed a Master's degree where I researched contextual learning and focused on adolescent psychology during my undergraduate education. Outside of the educational space, I enjoy music, dancing, yoga, card games,...

Where and how do you learn? How do you develop a passion for curiosity? How do you keep your mind open to new people, ideas, and possibilities? These are all questions being faced by educators and students as our world gains a more global context.  For a rare few who are lucky enough to have talented and equally curious teachers, this might happen in the confines of the classroom. But...

Hi Andy, tell us a bit about yourself. I grew up in the beautiful industrial city of Birmingham, and after a career in mental health work and various bits and bobs, I qualified to become a teacher. After a few years in the UK, I moved to the British Virgin Islands (which many viewed as an improvement even on Birmingham!) and from there on to Switzerland, my first stint at...

1. Hi Maxim. It's been two years now since you graduated from THINK Global School. What have you been up to in that time?  Since graduating from TGS, I have been attending the University of Toronto studying mineral (mining) engineering. I know you might be asking why, out of all engineering, I chose mineral engineering? It's because I want to throw myself into the space mining industry. I figured it...
