COVID-19 Response Plan

As much as we would like to be learning through firsthand experiences of the world, the safety and well-being of the THINK Global School community is paramount. Due to that, we are currently engaged in remote learning for the foreseeable future.

Below you will find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions regarding the pandemic. Any inquiries regarding our COVID-19 response that aren’t answered below can be directed to info@thinkglobalschool.org.

General Questions

How is THINK Global School dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic?

  • We partner with International SOS (iSOS) for medical, security, travel, and emergency assistance to bring another layer of care and support to the health and safety protocols within TGS. iSOS is a powerful resource, providing 24-hour access to a global network of doctors and emergency support teams.
  • Our Leadership Team made the decision to transition to online learning during Term 4 of the 2019-2020 school year and Term 1 of the 2020-2021 school year. Our primary concern is the safety of our students. In conjunction with iSOS, our medical and security services company, TGS evaluated travel and immigration restrictions, quarantine rules for students’ home locations in addition to term locations, gathering restrictions, and pandemic preparedness and response.
  • With guidance from iSOS, we are in the process of developing pandemic protocols in order to integrate them into our Emergency Action Plan.

Will THINK Global School survive the pandemic?

THINK Global School is a 501(c)3-status not-for-profit organization. One of two forms of revenue is student tuition, which is calculated on a need basis. Expenses not covered by student tuition are paid for by grants from the THINK Foundation, a private foundation set up by founder Joann McPike to provide long-term funding for the school and ensure broad economic diversity within the student body. The THINK Foundation has proven to be a reliable source of income over TGS’s 10+ year lifespan and has remained stable. We do not currently anticipate any changes to these income sources due to COVID-19, nor do we expect any changes to our scholarship fund.

Financial Concerns

Who should I consult regarding questions of tuition and financial aid?

We understand the global health crisis is causing negative ripples in many areas of your life, including your family’s economic stability. If you have any questions regarding tuition and financial aid concerns for the upcoming 2020-21 school year, THINK Global School’s Business Office is here to provide answers. Please reach out to info@thinkglobalschool.org with any questions you may have related to financial issues and the possible impact they may have on your child’s ability to attend THINK Global School.

Will tuition be discounted if the school does not travel for COVID-19 specific reasons?

During the 2020-21 school year, a portion of the tuition was reimbursed to families for each term where THINK Global School did not travel out of regard for student and staff safety. A similar scheme will be assessed for the 2021-22 school year if the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt our predetermined travel plans, resulting in an online term.

Logistics, Safety, and Security Concerns

How is THINK Global School navigating the pandemic?

With guidance from International SOS, our vendor for medical, security, travel, and emergency assistance, we are in the process of developing pandemic protocols in order to integrate them into our Emergency Action Plan.

Travel Concerns

Has THINK Global School transitioned to online learning?

Our Leadership Team made the decision to transition to online learning during Term 4 of the 2019-2020 school year and Term 1 of the 2020-2021 school year. Our primary concern is the safety of our students. In conjunction with iSOS, our medical and security services company, TGS evaluated travel and immigration restrictions, quarantine rules for students’ home locations in addition to term locations, gathering restrictions, and pandemic preparedness and response.

When will THINK Global School return to travel?

Moving forward, our Leadership Team will continue to monitor the ongoing global pandemic with student safety at the forefront of any decisions that are made. In order to determine when TGS will return to travel and which possible host countries are safe and viable, the following factors will be taken into account: travel and immigration restrictions, quarantine rules for students’ home locations in addition to term locations, gathering restrictions, treatment, contact tracing and pandemic preparedness and response.

Our Travel Team will continue to conduct research in conjunction with iSOS and our immigration firm, Newland Chase, to provide robust research on rapidly changing travel and immigration restrictions.

Academic Concerns

Is THINK Global School taking an extended online approach?

Our skilled educators successfully transitioned to the online learning space due to the pandemic and will continue to support unique, world-class learning experiences in an online format.

At the heart of our extended online learning plans are the educator-student relationships alongside academic and social relationships between students. TGS is committed to planning and implementing a cutting edge, engaging experience for our students.

Teaching and learning will continue with students spending time on educator-developed modules, personal projects, our Inside Out program, and community events and activities. You can find examples of these activities from our 2020-21 Term One here.

Teaching will not be a collection of online links to consume: educators will be using a variety of online structures to personalize our communication, including personalized video presentations, forming small chat groups, using Google Hangout group calls, and our standard 1-on-1 calls to students.

To facilitate online learning, our community utilizes a variety of digital platforms pre-loaded on TGS devices, including our learning management platform, HeadRush.

Appropriate guidelines and expectations exist so that the school day does not place students in front of screens more than necessary. Schedules, though varied and flexible, will be between 8:00 and 18:00 in each student’s local time zone. Suggested daily schedules for on/off-screen time will help support students and parents.

Medical Concerns

Are THINK Global School students provided with health insurance?

Our student health insurance policy, CISI, provides 100% coverage for COVID-19 when students are traveling with THINK Global School or in-country; however, students are not eligible for CISI coverage during times when they are in their home countries. This includes online terms and the five-week breaks students have in between countries. Families are expected to provide coverage of their own during these circumstances.
