Read MoreOn February 15th, THINK Global School visited the campus of George Washington University for a lecture provided by politician Greg Simon, who had agreed to share his time by participating in our ongoing guest speaker series. The series, which has included Hans Rosling and Tony Wagner, is designed to provide our students and faculty with unique perspectives related to the current term’s curriculum. In his role as a guest speaker, Mr. Simon used the knowledge gained during his time in both chambers of the United States Congress and the White House to provide our students and faculty members with an enthralling take on the U.S. Government.
The talk covered four main topics, and each will be highlighted on our blog in a separate update. Mr. Simon’s lecture can also be viewed in its entirety on our YouTube channel. The four topics covered include:
- How psychoanalysis can explain the United States Government
- How the United States government works and how its changed since 1789
- Can the form of the U.S. government continue to survive without compromise?
- Can oppressed people oust their governments without the USA?
In the first topic, how psychoanalysis can explain the United States Government, Mr. Simon introduces the international student body of THINK Global School to the make-up of the U.S. government, using an angle that relates the different branches and functions to the findings of Freud. Noting that the U.S. government was formed many years before Freud was even alive, Mr. Simon focuses on the intuition of the founding fathers to make a system that can handle a passionate and logical population.
