Kelsey Gray

Educator

Hi Kelsey, tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and what were you doing before arriving at THINK Global School?

I am from Anchorage, Alaska and I’ve spent the last several years traveling the world while developing rock climbs and writing books.

What are your favorite aspects of your job?

The exploration of real world experiences by putting the students into those experiences. The ability to take the students to these far off places and then immerse them in the culture while also growing myself as an individual because we are learning together.

What aspects of THINK Global School’s educational model do you find most appealing?

I’ve always loved the idea of project based learning in multiple environments. I think it is the best way to really grow an appreciation and understanding of real-world challenges.

If you could make one major change to global education, what would it be?

I would develop the system to work better for students with ADHD. This is something I personally have a connection to, and I think that the overall systems of education often don’t create room for an ADHD brain. When considering the statistics behind everything, from eating disorders to anxiety and depression and the possible relationship to ADHD, I think it’s something that affects a significant number of students around the world.

Which of our core values do you feel you most embody, and why?

Empathy. I believe that it is one of the most important factors in the health of an overall society and all of those within it.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Antarctica, to climb one of the peaks and see the southern end of the world seem like the top.

What is your favorite book, and why?

There are too many! But I will currently say Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, mainly because this is the book that got me back into reading after many years of avoidance and one of the only books I’ve ever read twice.
