This past summer, as I was packing to come to the states for my final year in college, I came across an envelope addressed to myself. I was curious to see what the letter was about because there was no written sender. I unfolded the sheet inside to find my own handwriting, addressed to me from Kilimanjaro. The letter reminded me of several things I've forgotten. It told me not to forget Immanuel the Porter or Julius who held my hand as I hiked (or more like slided) down the mountain with a migraine, not to forget the melting glaciers on the summit. Reading it with three years in hindsight made me realize how impactful the TGS environment was. Here I am, worrying about getting a decent job and finding an apartment, and I had almost forgotten what TGS had given me - not only a strong sense of determination to find meaning in whatever I do but also a connection with all the world's residents, a faith in my fellow humans that everyone is good at heart.
